Single-vehicle crash kills driver in Ashtabula County

OSP: Drug impairment may be factor in crash

ANDOVER TOWNSHIP, Ohio - A fatal one-vehicle crash is under investigation in Andover township.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers responded to a traffic crash at Pymatuning Lake Road and Gibbs Road in Ashtabula County around 9 p.m. Thursday.

A 1998 Chevrolet pickup struck two trees after failing to stop for a stop sign at Pymatuning Lake Road.

Nathan L. Bates, 18, of Williamsfield, was transported from the scene by ambulance to St. Joseph's Clinic in Andover. Bates was then flown by helicopter to St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Youngstown, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver did not use safety belts. Drug impairment is believed to be a factor in the crash.

The Andover Fire Department, Community Care Ambulance, and Ohio Department of Natural Resources Pymatuning State Park Rangers also responded to the scene.
