A teen boy's body was pulled from the water near a beach, the Coast Guard Station of Ashtabula reported on Tuesday.

The Conneaut Fire Department said the body of a 16-year-old boy who allegedly drowned on Sunday was pulled from the water around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

The Ashtabula County coroner said the 16-year-old, identified as Jakub Hess, of Hiram, went missing around 7:20 p.m. on Sunday while swimming at a beach in Conneaut. Hess was visiting his mother in Conneaut.

On Tuesday, search crews found Hess' body in 8-foot water off the beach of Conneaut township park, the coroner's office reported. He was swimming when strong winds and waves hit on Sunday.

Officials said Hess yelled for help and his brother tried to save him, but Hess was unable to make it back to shore. He was not a strong swimmer.

The coroner said Hess' death appeared to be an accidental drowning.

The Ashtabula County Water Rescue, the Lake City Water Rescue Team and the Conneaut Fire Department assisted the Coast Guard in the search.
