3 boaters discovered after being stranded for 19 hours on Lake Erie in Conneaut

CONNEAUT, Ohio - Three boaters were found alive on top of their capsized boat Sunday after being stranded on Lake Erie for 19 hours.

Firefighters said the three male boaters left Conneaut on a 20-foot bass boat around 10 a.m. Saturday to go fishing.

At around 5 p.m. the men were turning the boat to come back to shore, when it overturned about 2-and-a-half miles from the Conneaut Lighthouse.

The three men were ejected and tossed into Lake Erie.

Firefighters said the men had on life jackets, and climbed on top of the boat to wait for help.

Then around 12:15 p.m. Sunday, a couple from Pennsylvania was boating in the area.

The couple helped the men to safety and brought them back to the shore.

EMS crews were called and transported the men to the hospital to be treated. Firefighters said they were okay.

The stranded boaters were identified as a man in his 20's, a 49-year-old and a 67-year-old.
