Authorities in North Carolina will not seek the death penalty for Nate Summerfield, the Ashland man accused of killing his girlfriend Lynn Jackenheimer last year.
ASHLAND, Ohio - For an entire week, friends of Lynn Jackenheimer kept hope alive. Bur late Monday afternoon, those hopes turned to sadness when a body found in North Carolina was positively identified as Lynn.
"Distraught, upset, real upset," Jimmy Robinson said. "I mean it's real disturbing."
Robinson was busy changing the sign outside Goodfellows Pizzeria and Pub where Lynn worked to read: "Rest in peace. You memories will last forever." The other side of the sign reads "Wanted Nate Summerfield."
Nate Summerfield, 27, is Jackenheimer's ex-boyfriend who returned from vacation without her and hasn't been seen since. According to a 911 call right after Jackenheimer went missing, Summerfield told a relative that he had strangled Lynn.
"It's obvious he needs to be found," Goodfellows owner Tracey Cole said. "He needs to be found." North Carolina authorities issued a warrant for Summerfield on Monday.
Friends said they will continue to raise funds for the Jackenheimer family.
"It is really heartbreaking; I didn't know the people well. I feel sorry for the family and the children and now they don't have a mother," said Ashland resident Tresses Cole.
"As a mother it kind of tears you up. What are her parents going through, the children," said Jan Christian, Ashland resident.
United States Marshals from the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force said it was the efforts of the Ashland County community that put Nathan Summerfield, the man accused of killing Lynn Jackenheimer last July, behind bars.
The man accused of killing Ashland mother of two Lynn Jackenheimer was indicted by a North Carolina grand jury for first-degree murder.
The parents of murder suspect Nate Summerfield have filed a motion to intervene in the custody hearing of their 3-year-old grandson, the child of slain Lynn Jackenheimer and imprisoned Nate Summerfield.
Police are looking into the possibility that murder suspect Nate Summerfield of Ashland had an accomplice.
A judge in North Carolina denied bond for Nate Summerfield, who's accused of murdering his estranged girlfriend, Lynn Jackenheimer, while vacationing in the Outer Banks.
