According to the Ashland County Sheriff's Office, on March 11 officials made a felony traffic stop in the area of 1900 E. Main St., following a short investigation into a murder-for-hire plot.

Officials said Deborah K. Matz, 61, of Redhaw, Ohio, was arrested for conspiracy to commit murder after she attempted to hire someone to commit murder. Matz was taken into custody after the traffic stop. Her car was seized and impounded.

Chief Deputy Carl Reichert in Ashland County said Matz paid $1,000 to an undercover officer to kill a 32-year-old man and a 7-year-old girl. Reichert said he did not believe the suspect was related to the victims.

Matz is being held in the Ashland County Jail pending review of charges by the Ashland County Prosecutor's Office, officials reported.

The Ashland County Jail said Matz appeared in Ashland County Common Pleas Court by video arraignment. Her bond was set at $500,000.
