Lake County United Way: 7,200 calls for food to 211; $25,000 in food given to 50 local pantries

MENTOR, Ohio - Boxes upon boxes of peanut butter and tuna, fruit cocktail and pancake mix--stocked and stacked and sent away to 50 local pantries to help people in need.

There have been nearly as many calls to 211, which directs people to a nearby pantry, in 2013--7,200--as there were in 2011 and 2012 combined, according to a news release from the United Way of Lake County.

Thursday, volunteers loaded up $25,000 worth in food to help meet the need.
