Teen driver in hit-skip crash injuring Cleveland mom and baby charged with grand theft

Teen surrendered hours after exclusive video aired

CLEVELAND - The 16-year-old juvenile involved in a hit-skip crash, that seriously injured a Cleveland mother and her 5-month-old son, has been charged with grand theft.

Cleveland police say the teen turned himself in just hours after exclusive video aired yesterday on  NewsChannel5 report that obtained surveillance video of the crash.

Police say the 2000 Jeep Cherokee that jumped the sidewalk at Buckeye & 118th Street and slammed into the mother and infant was stolen.

On the video, you can see the driver, wearing a sleeveless white t-shirt, jump out of the driver's door and flee the scene.

A passengers wearing a red top also fled and police are continuing to search for that suspect..

Police say investigators will be speaking with teen, who has been released to the custody of his parents,  on Monday and hope to learn more about the circumstances  surrounding the crash.

Both the mother and son remain hospitalized.
