A federal lawsuit filed by former Cuyahoga County Commissioner Jimmy Dimora claiming injuries received as a result of slipping in a pool of water while in prison has been ordered settled and dismissed.
Dimora was seeking at least $50,000 in damages alleging negligence on the part of Northeast Ohio Corrections Center near Youngstown where Dimora was housed during his federal corruption trial that resulted in a 28-year prison sentence.
Dimora claimed unspecified injuries as a result of the 2012 fall but a federal judge on April 14 issued an "order of dismissal" indicating the court "was informed" that "the parties have reached a settlement in principle."
U.S. District Judge Benita Y. Pearson ordered the docket shall be marked "settled and dismissed without prejudice" and a May 9 trial date canceled.
Pearson also ordered a resolution of an estimated $80,000 in "unpaid legal fees" to the Cleveland law firm of Lillie & Holderman stemming from his corruption trial defense.
