Cleveland and Cincinnati casino collapses share striking similarities

CLEVELAND - NewsChannel5 investigators found several similarities between a casino collapse in Cincinnati Friday and the collapse of parking garage in Cleveland last December.

Rock Gaming and Rock Ohio Caesars are the developers for both Horseshoe Casino projects.

Both collapses happened on a 60-foot by 60-foot section of the structures and both collapses happened while workers were pouring concrete onto the sections. The each happened on the second level of the structures.

The developers said there was no connection between the collapses during a news conference in Cincinnati Friday.

Steve Rosenthal, one of the casinos' developers, said the projects employed different architects and different construction companies. The developers and OSHA are investigating the collapses.

OSHA has six months from the date of the incidents to complete its investigations.

No one was hurt when Cleveland's parking garage collapsed Dec. 16. Workers are still completing the five-story parking garage. Cleveland's Horseshoe Casino is expected to open this spring.

Cincinnati's Horseshoe Casino was set to open in 2013.
