CLEVELAND - One week after Rock Ohio Caesars purchased the Higbee Building from Forest City Enterprises, plans are moving forward on what was one of the primary reasons behind the sale, the building of a glass enclosed walkway connecting the casino and its parking garage.
Construction on the 170-foot span over the intersection of Ontario Street and Prospect Avenue will begin in the next few weeks with the goal to have the walkway completed before winter.
The estimated $81 million purchase price includes money for the repayment of historic tax credits Forest City took on the property.
The casino occupies the first four floors of the 13-story Higbee's Department Store. The purchase frees up remaining floors for potential gaming, entertainment or hospitality use. Rock Ohio Caesars at this point is exploring those possibilities.
The landmark Silver Grille located on the 10th floor of the Higbee will continue to be managed and catered by the Rock Ohio owned Ritz-Carlton and bookings are unaffected by the change in building ownership.
