Cleveland Police Chief Calvin Williams told reporters today that the officers involved in the fatal shooting of a 12-year-old boy are under administrative review.

The grand jury decision not to indict officers involved in the Tamir Rice shooting was announced Monday.

The grand jury began meeting in October to decide if criminal charges are warranted against Cleveland officers Timothy Loehmann and Frank Garmback after Loehmann shot and killed the 12-year-old at the Cudell Recreation Center in November 2014.

Loehmann and Garmback are on restricted duty as the department decides whether administrative charges are appropriate.

“Now that the criminal portion of this incident has concluded, the city will begin an administrative review to determine if policies and procedures were violated,” said Mayor Frank G. Jackson. “We will conduct this review in an honest and transparent way with due process at its core - not just process.”
