More and more people are getting concealed carry permits for hand guns.
New numbers from the TSA show more and more people are trying to fly with those weapons too.
It's another record week of gun seizures at airports around the country and here in Cleveland as well.
For the second week in a row, the Transportation Security Administration has seized a record number of weapons, including loaded guns at security checkpoints.
Last week 81 guns nationwide were confiscated, 70 of which were loaded. And 31 had a round in the chamber.
With last week's record number more than 1, 908 have been seized this year, 400 more than this time last year.
It's not just guns, knives, Swords and even brass knuckles have been seized.
Here in Cleveland, TSA has already collected 6 this year, which is on par with the 12 they collected last year.
"What we’re finding here at Hopkins is individuals, generally professionals who have a licensed to carry a weapon don’t remember that they it in a particular bag that they bring through the checkpoint,” said Fred Szabo, Interim Airport Director, at Cleveland-Hopkins International Airport.
Today, no one tried to sneak weapons on flights at Cleveland-Hopkins, however an alarming find at Akron-Canton, a hollow grenade was confiscated from a passenger.
And while passengers can take guns on flights, you do have to claim it upon check in, and those rules are strict.
"TSA doesn't want to infringe on anybody's right to take their firearm with them when they travel, we just want to make sure it's done the safest way possible and that it's inaccessible during the flight," Mark Howell, the TSA Regional Spokesperson said.
