CLEVELAND - Cleveland police are investigating a homicide after a 25 year old man was shot and killed on the city's west side early Tuesday morning.
Around 12:30 a.m., Cleveland police were called to the 4400 block of West 49th Street just north of Woburn Avenue for reports of a man who had been shot during a home invasion.
On scene, paramedics and officers found Sheffield with a gunshot wound to his chest. He was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center in critical condition. Police told NewsChannel5 the 25-year-old man died a short time later from his injuries.
The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner identified the victim as Antoin Sheffield.
Police told NewsChannel5 that five children and three other adults were in the home at the time of the invasion and shooting.
Police said that four masked men entered the home demanding money before shooting the victim.
The children were taken to a neighbor's home and were said to be unharmed.
Neighbors said the family has only lived in the house a few months. According to them Sheffield had just recently moved in.
"There was traffic in and out at all kinds of weird hours and it was just really weird," said neighbor Dwana Hamrick.
"Last night when I came home around 9 oclock 9:15 I saw a black van surrounding they were going back and forth back and forth I found that weird," said another neighbor who didn't want to go on camera.
Now neighbors fear for her family's safety.
"It's really unsettling like I'm a single woman I live alone and I'm a little nervous about thing right now," said Hamrick.
No arrests have been made in the case.
