CLEVELAND - Sammy's, one of Cleveland's well-known restaurant and catering operations, suddenly announced the closing of its facilities on Monday.
The company released the following statement on their website :
"On August 5, 2013, City Life Inc. d/b/a Sammy's announced it has made the decision to close its facilities. We are currently in negotiations with a local caterer to transition our existing clients. Existing clients can use TRANSITIONPLAN@sammys.com for updates."
Sammy's was the exclusive caterer at several reputable Cleveland organizations including Severance Hall, the Case Club and PlayhouseSquare.
Since the announcement, several local Cleveland caterers have reached out to Sammy's former customers and employees to offer assistance.
Executive Caterers at Landerhaven sent the following statement to NewsChannel 5:
"We at Executive Caterers learned today that Sammy's, a long time Cleveland caterer, ceased operations.
Sammy's was a formidable competitor and we were shocked to hear the news. This will have a tremendous impact on the customers who had events booked with them, especially those scheduled for the next few weeks. As in the past, when caterers have run into trouble, Executive Caterers is ready to assist all those customers to ensure their events take place as planned."
Marigold Catering in Cleveland also reached out on their Facebook Page and offered to host a job fair.
"To any of our Industry friends who may be hiring, Marigold is going to host a job fair to help all the Sammy's people who lost their jobs yesterday! Monday August 12th from 1pm-4pm at our building; 3901 Lakeside Ave, Cleveland. Please contact email@example.com if you are interested in participating."
The reasoning behind the sudden closing is still not yet known. NewsChannel5 has reached out to Sammy's for a statement and has not yet heard back.
