Saturday Riversweep cleanup marks 23rd year

Volunteers to work & celebrate Saturday

Cleveland - Organizers are expecting at least 1,000 volunteers to turn out for today's 23rd annual Riversweep environmental cleanup.

Ohio Canal Corridor bills the event as "Ohio's largest done-in-a-day cleanup effort."

The cleanup will be held Saturday, May 12, 2012, from 9 a.m. until noon, at various points along the Cuyahoga River and it's tributaries.

Volunteers are asked to report to one of nine clean-site locations by 8:45 a.m. where they will be given gloves and garbage bags and work assignments.

According to the Ohio Canal Corridor website, the first 1,000 volunteers will receive a free "Cuyahoga Avengers" t-shirt (pictured above).

Participants in the 2012 Riversweep are also invited to attend a post-cleanup celebration luncheon from noon to 2 p.m. at Hart Crane Park near the Columbus Road bridge in Cleveland's flats.
