Tre'Vonte Mitchell, arrested and charged for animal cruelty, failed to appear for his sentencing and now has a warrant out.
CLEVELAND - The Cleveland Animal Protective League is looking for answers after the mutilated body of a small dog was found in Edgewater Park, and some dog walkers say this isn't the first time.
A person was walking their dog in the lakefront park at about 1 p.m. Wednesday when they found the dead Chihuahua, said APL Executive Director Sharon Harvey. On Thursday, APL workers went to the park to check out the gruesome find.
Harvey said the dog's body was in pieces, yet all of its paws were wrapped in gauze and tape. The executive director also said they have more questions than answers, since it is hard to tell what happened to the badly disfigured dog.
Tipsters said other people out walking dogs in Edgewater Park have seen similar things, according to Harvey. She said she hopes more people will come forward.
The APL has considered that the dog was buried there, and a predator dug it up and tore it apart.
Anyone with information should call the Cleveland APL investigations hotline at 216-277-1630.
