Cleveland City Councilman Zack Reed calls for community to keep their guard up following violence

As Cleveland police continue to investigate the murder of 45-year-old Christine Malone and the attack of a 20-year-old on East 116th street, Councilman Zack Reed will be out handing out flyers along East 93rd where the first in a string of recent attacks happened.

The flyers read, "There is a killer and a rapist in our community targeting women." A community meeting is planned for Tuesday, April 9 at 6 p.m. at the East Prep Woodland Hills Campus near 93rd and Union.

"The flyers are necessary," said Reed. "At the end of the day whether we can say that this are related or non-related crimes we still have a killer on the loose."

Reed is referring to the person responsible for the murder of 45-year-old Christine Malone. Her body was found a little more than a week ago near East 93rd and Bessemer. She was found outside fully clothed by children playing. Police said Thursday during a news conference at the Justice Center that they have not made much progress with finding her killer.

Jerome Ogletree faced a judge Friday in connection with the murder of Jazmine Trotter. Prosecutors said she was sexually assaulted and left at an abandoned home on East 93rd street. Ogeltree, who has a history of convictions for drug use, is being held on a $1 million bond.

"They are becoming more aware," Reed said talking about the community being on heightened alert. "Too often we get passive. We get too secure," Reed continued.

The councilman is urging the community to come to the meeting at the campus. Those expected to attend include council persons Cleveland and Mitchell, a member of the Rape Crisis Center and fourth district commander Deon McCaulley.
