CLEVELAND - While Monday is the day the IRS wants your tax dollars, the American Red Cross wants your blood as well.
The American Red Cross is hosting its annual 'Bloodsuckers Buffet Blood Drive' at Windows on the River in the Powerhouse at Nautica. The blood drive runs until 6:00 p.m.
Parking is free. Donors who show up will receive complimentary food and gift bags. There will also be grand prize raffles.
Monday's blood drive is one of the largest one day blood drives in the region. The Red Cross states that every day 900 pints of blood is needed to meet the needs of patients in 57 local hospitals.
The goal of Monday's blood drive is to collect over 300 pints. Each pint has the potential to help up to three patients.
"This blood drive is one of the largest in the region," said Cleveland Red Cross communications manager Christy Sabaka. "We're heading into the summer months, which is actually a difficult collection time for us, so this drive is going to go a long way in getting us ready for that difficult collection time."
John Miller of Euclid is a regular blood donor. He showed up to the blood drive understanding the need that exists.
"People need blood," said Miller. "They are always asking for blood. I am getting calls all the time. I feel it is a privilege to donate if you can."
