Shoveling, salting, plowing—these are things Carl Harris hasn't been able to do for years.

“I don’t think I could do it myself. For many years my wife did it," he said.

The 68-year-old Vietnam veteran has been in a wheelchair for more than 40 years, which means lawn care of any kind is a challenge.

“To get out and try to do it from a wheelchair, to clear out your driveway, keep the grass cut,” he explains. “It’s become quite a chore.”

That's where Dominic Accordino steps in.

“He’s been fantastic,” Harris expressed.

Accordino, snow plow business owner and volunteer for the SnowCare for Troops program, has been voluntarily caring for Carl's lawn free of charge for the past year.

“I just thought it was a good thing to do, to help them out.” Accordino said. “They’ve done so much for us. And it just feels good to be able to help them out.”

He’s one of many participating in Project Evergreen’s program specifically for military vets.

Cindy Code, Executive Director of Project EverGreen said the non-profit just wants vets to have one less thing to worry about.

She said, “We want to take a chore of the hands of military families with a deployed service member and also provide them with a piece of mind.”

And in weather like we're having today, Cark said he’s thankful he’s not forgotten about.

“It just makes you appreciate that people are there willing to help veterans.”
