CLEVELAND - PPG Industries, Inc. and its employees marked a milestone Wednesday at their Cleveland plant at W. 143rd St. and Lorain Avenue.
They celebrated the 50th anniversary of Automotive Electrocoat. It is a primer that was first developed and produced at the Cleveland plant and later PPG commercialized the technology.
Electrocoat now is used in more than 98 percent of all vehicles built today. In fact, more than 700 million vehicles have been protected with PPG Electrocoat.
PPG has operated development laboratories and coatings production at their Cleveland plant continuously since 1946.
To mark the event, Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson stopped by the plant with a proclamation honoring PPG Industries. All employees at the plant also received a steak dinner as part of the celebration.
