Police: 45-year-old woman killed in gun crossfire on Cleveland's east side

Woman shot at Hough Avenue near East 93rd Street

CLEVELAND - Cleveland police are investigating a homicide after a woman was shot on the city's east side late Wednesday night.

The shooting happened around 10:40 p.m. along East 93rd Street near Hough Avenue.

According to a security guard, he heard 20 or 30 shots. When he ran to the scene, he found the woman laying in the parking lot.

Family friends said the woman was caught in crossfire between multiple people that were shooting at each other.

Paramedics rushed the woman to MetroHealth Medical Center where she died.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner identified the victim as 45-year-old Valetta Martin.

Family said Martin was a mother of four and grandmother of five.

The Cleveland Center for Structural Biology a building belonging to Case Western Reserve University on Ansel Avenue, hundreds of feet away from the shooting, was hit by the gunfire and had a broken window near the entrance.

No arrests have been made.
