An ATM machine was stolen from a cell phone store on Cleveland's west side, becoming the newest victim in a rash of smash and grabs in Northeast Ohio.

According to a witness, a minivan was used to ram into the side of the building at Lorain Avenue and West 65th Street multiple times before making a large enough hole to get inside. Once the hole was big enough the witness said another van showed up and about five people stole an ATM from inside the store.

The witness told News 5 as the people were getting into the get away van Cleveland police pulled up and gave chase for just a few seconds before stopping the pursuit.

Officers at the scene said they were not able to chase due to the departments pursuit policy and the smash and grab being a property crime.

The van used to smash into the building was left running on Lorain Avenue and was thought to be stolen.

No descriptions of the people were given by police or the witness. The witness said the getaway vehicle was a tan minivan and was headed south towards Clark Avenue.
