Police: Shots fired after three men try to gain access to private event at FOP union hall

Police are investigating a shooting near a Cleveland Fraternal Order of Police lodge on the east side Sunday evening.

The shooting happened near the lodge at East 23rd Street and Payne Avenue just before 6 p.m.

A witness told police three unidentified black men tried to gain entry to a private event at the union hall.

When they were asked to leave, one of them allegedly reached into his waistband and pull something out. The witness said she heard gunfire and glass shatter moments later. 

The men fled in an unknown direction. 

A 24-year-old woman said her nearby home on Chester Avenue was also shot into.
