Sources connected to the investigation of last week's downtown double homicide say the incident was a drug deal gone bad. The victims and suspects knew each other.
"They’re saying two people were shot up on the 8th floor in apartment 829," said the 911 caller, an employee at The Archer apartments on W. 9th Street. "They’re very upset.”
Cleveland Police have not made any arrests in the case, nor do they have any updates in their investigation. But, they said there are two suspects.
The victims have been identified as 35-year-old Rashaad Bandy and 27-year-old Brandon James. Police said both were residents of the building.
“They were almost like best friends," said Eric Williams, Bandy's cousin who spoke about Bandy's relationship with James. "They did work together, they were close, they were really close.”
Williams said Bandy was a talented music producer, a graduate of Euclid High School and an international traveler.
He also said he knows very little about the case and does not know whether drugs were involved.
“Every time I see him, all we can do is hug and kiss," added Williams, recalling his relationship with Bandy. "That’s what I remember.”
Police found Bandy on the living room floor with a gunshot wound to his head. James was in the hallway with a gunshot wound to his lower back.
A revolver and suspected marijuana were found in the apartment, police added.
Management at The Archer did not want to make any comments or statements. Residents said they received a note from managers saying they are saddened by the incident and working with police to address concerns. They also held a community meeting earlier this week.
