Cleveland police officers investigating a burglary alarm discovered a house fire and helped rescue two adults and multiple children early Monday.
According to police at the scene, they were called just before 4 a.m. to the City Mart corner store at West 130th Street and Crossburn Avenue for an alarm. When they arrived at the store they found a broken front window.
As police officers were investigating they smelled smoke and walked around the corner to find smoke pouring from a home on Crossburn Avenue.
Officers ran to the home and discovered two people already walking from the front door but were told others were inside. Officers quickly made it to all the sleeping people and helped them all from inside the burning home. Police said they rescued four or five children.
Cleveland EMS said that everyone made it out safely and they did not have to treat or transport anyone.
Officials also responded to a blaze at a home on the 3300 block of West 122nd Street Monday morning, in which one home was reported to be fully engulfed. The flames also reached and damaged a nearby home. Details on any possible injuries or what may have caused the fire are not available at this time.
