Petition drive started to keep West Side Market parking free

CLEVELAND - Timothy McCue grew up in Pittsburgh, but his love for his adopted Cleveland and especially its institutions, like the West Side Market, has him riled up.

A proposal to charge for parking at the 100-year-old landmark has him concerned enough to begin an online petition drive.

"The market is a valuable tool and a centerpiece of the region and I don't want to see anything distract from that success," he said.

McCue said although vendors can veto the pay-to-park proposal, he wanted to start an online petition to make sure the community has a dialogue to look at positive solutions to the parking situation.

He points to growing number of farmer's markets as alternatives for consumers to use if the market enacts a parking fee.

"So why would we distract and deter people from coming to the West Side Market?" he asked.
