A Northeast Ohio native is returning to the Cleveland National Air Show as a member of the U.S. Navy Blue Angels.

Drew Verble, a 2000 graduate of Hoover High School in North Canton, attended the air show as a child with his father.

“My dad would always bring me every year the Blue Angels came,” said Verble. “I never thought I’d be a part of the team and come back here.”

Verble joined the Blue Angels about a year ago. He works as an aircraft technician in the paint shop.

“They’re old aircraft and they love to fly out the paint,” Verble said as he inspected one of the F/A-18 Hornets parked at Burke Lakefront Airport. “It’s a continuous job. There’s never a time when I don’t have anything to do.”

Verble travels to shows across the country with the team, but has been looking forward to returning to Cleveland and seeing his family all year.

“They’re proud,” he said. “Very excited.”

The U.S. Navy Blue Angels are performing Saturday, Sunday and Monday at the Cleveland National Air Show. Shows will begin around 3 p.m. and last about 45 minutes.
