New 'media box' keeps Cuyahoga County library busy, offers free videos 24/7

Free videos available at any hour

STRONGSVILLE, Ohio - A new "media box" has been installed inside the lobby of the Strongsville library.

It is similar to the Red Box video dispensers located throughout Northeast Ohio. People can access the movies at any time of the day. The big difference is the DVDs are free if you are a member of the Cuyahoga County Public Library.

Each media box holds 720 DVDs and feature a mix of adult and family friendly titles. There are both old and newer movies available.

Library patrons will be able to borrow DVDs for one week. They can be returned to the media box or brought back to any of the Cuyahoga County library branches.

The media box is a new concept for libraries. There are only two other library systems using them in the U.S. -- one is located in California, the other in Colorado.

The media box was purchased with grant money made available Library Services and Technology Act.

Another machine will be installed in the MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland later in 2011.
