CLEVELAND - Robert Roche, the executive director of the Native American Indian Education Center, and a small group protested against the Chief Wahoo logo outside Progressive Field before the Cleveland Indians home opener Friday.
"Our children are not mascots," Roche said.
Several fans walking by the protesters had a spirited exchange of words, but agreed to disagree and shook hands.
John Adams who has been the Indians drummer for 40 years said he likes the Chief Wahoo logo.
"It's the most recognized logo in sports around the world for many people, they know when they see this hat it's Cleveland," Adams said.
Roche said his group might file a new lawsuit against the franchise and his group might push to have the team fund some Native American causes and human services.
Roche also said the team name and logo are offensive and cast a stereotype against Native Americans.
