News conference set for 10/1 at 11 a.m.

CLEVELAND - The true identity of a Cleveland con man known as Bobby Thompson will be revealed at a news conference Monday morning.

The conference will be held at the U.S. Marshal's Office in Cleveland at 11 a.m.

From 2003 to 2010, the Ohio Attorney General's Office said Thompson collected about $2 million from Ohioans for a fake charity. The group also solicited millions more from victims in 40 other states.

According to U.S . Marshals, Thompson refused to tell authorities his real name and searches of fingerprint databases turned up negative results, until now. On booking sheets, Thompson signed by simply writing "X."

Thompson was on the run for two years before being captured in Oregon after an intense nationwide manhunt.
