Mom who left kids at Salvation Army found not guilty by reason of insanity

CLEVELAND - A woman who left her two children at the Salvation Army shelter in May has been found not guilty to two counts of endangering children.

Police said Alisha Houston, 31, of Cleveland, took a 1-year-old boy and an approximately 3-week-old girl to the Salvation Army/Harbor Light on Prospect Avenue and asked workers for a room for the night. At around 9 a.m., workers checking on the room found the babies but Houston was gone.

Police found Houston a few days later in Worthington, Ohio.

The results of a psychological evaluation determined that Houston is mentally ill and the courts found her not guilty by reason of insanity.
