CLEVELAND - A Cleveland mom was sentenced to serve 19 years in prison for assaulting her 3-year-old son.
The boy was transported to MetroHealth Hospital March 4 with kidney failure, spleen and bowel injuries, old and new rib fractures, an open foot wound and human bite marks on his ankle. He was also severely malnourished and dehydrated.
The boy lost five toes to frostbite and underwent a series of surgeries to repair his internal injuries. He then stayed at a rehabilitation facility for a period of time, and is now living with his father.
His mother Carla Rivera, 28, of Cleveland, pleaded guilty to two counts of endangering children, one count of felonious assault and one count of domestic violence. Rivera's live-in boyfriend Jorge Rosario-Colazzo, 28, pleaded guilty to one count of attempted endangering children. He was sentenced to serve 18 months in prison.
