CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cleveland Police are doing their part to make this a special Easter for some local children in need.
Police dispatcher Jennifer O'Malley had the idea to collect money and supplies to benefit children at local shelters.
O'Malley began with a post on her Facebook page that received a tremendous response from her coworkers in police radio.
She contacted Cleveland Police Patrolmen's Association President Jeffrey Folmer who made her the promise that "no child will go without a basket" and gave her a $500.00 donation from the Union. Flyers were sent out to the districts and Cleveland Police officers and Cleveland Dispatchers donated money and basket supplies. Outside agencies, including the Edna House Alumni and the Cleveland Clinic's Intercontinental Hotel made generous donations to the cause as well.
About 120 baskets were passed out Saturday to residents of Cleveland's Edna House and three other area domestic violence shelters.
Volunteers from the 'Cops and Kid's' program also helped to pass out the baskets.
