Mayor makes Extreme Home family announcement regarding the Anderson family

Andersons to be named 'Citizens of the Year'

MAPLE HEGHTS, Ohio - Valentine's Day is very special to Jasmine and Andre Anderson. The couple was married on Feb. 14, 2009.

Mayor Jeffrey Lansky performed the ceremony at Maple Heights City Hall in the community room.

Monday in that same room, Mayor Lansky announced the Andersons will be named 2010 Maple Heights 'Citizens of the Year.' The mayor told NewsChannel5 during an informal Valentine's Day lunch-hour celebration at city hall that sometime in March, there will be an official ceremony honoring the Andersons for their role as ambassadors for the city.

Jasmine and Andre Anderson and their sons, Jaison and Jahzion, became national celebrities of sorts when they were chosen to receive a new home as part of the ABC Television show "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition." The building project took place in early October -- and was broadcast nationwide on Dec. 5, 2010.

During the Valentine's Day party on Monday, a number of Maple Heights city employees gathered to toast the Andersons and wish them a happy anniversary.

The mayor said plans will soon be announced for the official 'Citizen of the Year' ceremony -- where the Andeson's names will be added to a permanent plaque displayed at city hall.

Later on Monday, NewsChannel5 also sat down with Andre and Jasmine Anderson to talk about the first Valentine's Day anniversary celebrated in their new home.
