Man with gunshot wound to the leg found sitting in car at gas station, later dies

CLEVELAND - Cleveland Police are investigating the death of a 20-year-old man after he was found with a gunshot wound early Sunday morning.

According to police reports, the victim, Are'es D. Richards of Cleveland, was allegedly sitting in a black Dodge Durango at the Marathon gas station at E. 40th and St. Clair Avenue around 2:30 a.m. When someone went to check on Richards, they found him unresponsive and observed blood on the door of the Durango.

Police arrived at the scene and found that Richards had a gunshot wound to the leg. He was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center where he later died.

Richards' official cause of death will be determined by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office.
