A man said he was able to escape from shooting suspects by jumping on the side of a moving semi-truck, regardless of his gunshot wounds.

On Tuesday around 8:30 p.m., police were told a man had been shot at East 55th Street and Crayton Avenue. When they arrived at the scene, they found the man being treated by Cleveland police and Cleveland Metropolitan Housing Authority police. EMS then took him to MetroHealth Medical Center.

While investigating the incident, police said, a semi-truck carrying the man who was shot on its side step pulled up to the scene. The driver told police the man jumped on his truck, told him he had been shot and said the suspects were chasing him.

CMHA officers saw two suspects running away to a white Ford after hearing gunshots in the area of East 46th Street and Case Court. Police stopped the vehicle and the suspects, identified as Deaunte J. Heard, 23, and Destiny T. Austin, 21, were arrested.

The case is still under investigation.
