Man shot and killed during apparent burglary on Cleveland's east side

CLEVELAND - A 20-year-old man was shot and killed on Cleveland's east side early Thursday morning.

Robin Smith, 20, of Cleveland, was shot and killed at about 1:15 a.m. in the 600 block of E. 103rd St., according to a release from Cleveland police.

Smith suffered gunshot wounds to the neck and leg and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The initial investigation by police revealed that a resident on the street allegedly shot Smith during an apparent burglary.

Police said that a resident in the area allegedly heard noises in his garage and went to check on them, and then noticed Smith in the garage. The resident fired a gun at Smith in his garage, and then went inside to call police, unsure if he had struck anybody, according to the release.

When police arrived, they found Smith in the driveway with the fatal gunshot wounds. Police said he was wearing a shoulder holster with a handgun in it.

During their investigation, police also located and arrested a 16-year-old male believed to be an accomplice with Smith. The exact role of the 16-year-old is unknown at this time, police said.

The resident at the home who shot Smith was not arrested and facts of this investigation are to be presented to the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's Office for review.
