Body recovered following search of Lake Erie at Euclid Beach

CLEVELAND - Rescue crews were searching Lake Erie at Euclid Beach for a missing 18-year-old swimmer Tuesday night, the Coast Guard said.

At about 9 p.m. friends reported the swimmer missing to Cleveland police, who notified the U.S. Coast Guard.

The man was last seen swimming about 200 yards off shore, according to the Cleveland Fire Department. Police said he was missing for more than an hour.

At about 10:20 p.m., a body was pulled out of the water, according to NewsChannel5 crews at the scene.

The name of the victim has not been released. His family was at the beach when the remains were recovered.

"It's a small search area, but the Coast Guard is saturating it with all assets available," Petty Officer 1st Class James Potter said, before the body was found.
