CLEVELAND - A Cleveland man appeared in court Friday after he was accused of knocking a cat unconscious and then setting it on fire.
According to witnesses, D'erise Carson, 26, repeatedly smashed the cat to the ground, knocking it senseless, and then walked away to get barbecue lighter fluid, returned, doused the cat, and set it on fire.
The cat belonged to his grandmother, the Cleveland Animal Protective League reports. A warrant was issued for his arrest May 30.
Carson was charged with four counts of animal cruelty and pleaded not guilty in court Friday. He was still in jail on a $35,000 bond Friday at noon.
