Lutheran Hospital to expand its emergency department to better serve its patients

CLEVELAND - There will soon be a new health care option when it comes to emergency care in the city of Cleveland.

Cleveland Clinic's Lutheran Hospital on West 25th Street held a kick off celebration Wednesday to begin construction on its new $17.5 million emergency department.

The expansion will double the size of the hospital's current emergency department. It will feature a newly designed entrance that will give patients easier access to emergency services. There will also be a split-flow triage system put in place to get patients treated quicker.

The number of beds will increase from 14 to 21 and the whole project is expected to be completed in 2015.

The current emergency department will remain open during construction.
