CLEVELAND - A Cleveland man accused of shooting at police officers and killing another man was found guilty on Thursday.
On Aug. 20, Cleveland police were called to the scene of Lee Road and Judson Road for crowd control when they spotted 28-year-old Anthony T. Conner with a gun, prosecutors said.
Conner fired at officers then turned the gun towards Damon Woodard, 21, of Cleveland. Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Timothy J. McGinty said Conner shot Woodard three times in the chest.
Woodard was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
According to prosecutors, Conner fled from police, but was arrested behind a nearby garage.
A Cuyahoga County jury found Conner guilty of aggravated murder, murder, felonious assault, discharging a firearm on or near a prohibited area and having a weapon under a disability. The trial lasted eight days.
Conner will be sentenced on Friday and faces a maximum sentenced of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
