CLEVELAND - A large water main break temporarily stalled Sunday traffic near I-90 in Cleveland.
The 12-inch water main broke around 3 p.m. at East 55th Street and South Marginal Road, near I-90.
Water quickly went gushing onto the interstate, causing traffic headaches from some drivers.
Cleveland Police issued a press release reporting I-90 east and west closed at E. 55th St. until further notice, urging drivers to avoid the area.
Police were also able to divert drivers off of I-90, but some drivers became stuck in the traffic backup.
The Cleveland Water Department was also called to the scene.
Cleveland Water officials said the water main broke about 50 yards away from the interstate and the ground was so saturated by the rain that it caused the water to flow onto I-90.
Employees from the Water Department were able to shut off water to four valves near the scene, solving part of the problem.
Officials said crews are now cleaning out the sewers so the rest of water can recede.
All lanes of I-90 were re-opened around 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
