A recovering heroin addict has made it his life’s mission to help drug users before it’s too late.
Steve Brennan has posted numbers of former users in bathrooms throughout Northeast Ohio.
“That’s where they’re shooting up,” said Brennan.” They can lock themselves in there. It’s safe.”
Brennan’s organization, “Heroin Help” has been around for roughly two months. He said, already, he’s received more than a hundred calls from people seeking help.
In September, Cuyahoga County saw a record number of deadly overdoses: 52.
“I relapsed a couple of times, I think I was stubborn,” said Brennan. “I was mad at God, and I was shaking my fist at God. I need to be in the field of helping others. It took me to suicide attempts. I had lost all hope.”
Last year in Cuyahoga County, 228 people overdosed and died. This year, the number has climbed to 385.
