First charter school in Cleveland's central neighborhood hosts open house

CLEVELAND - Stepstone Academy hosted an open house Tuesday for perspective students and their parents. It is the first charter school in Cleveland's Central Neighborhood.

The charter school is housed in a multi-million dollar renovated buildings located on East 32nd, between Cedar and Carnegie.

Guidestone, a non-profit organization that has helped children and their families for nearly 150 years, developed Stepstone Academy.

The school offers students an intimate, technology-based learning model branded as "Momentum Learning." Students get face-to-face learning time in a classroom with no more than 20 students.

In addition to education, Stepstone Academy helps families with services such as job placement and basic necessities. Assistant Principal Millette Tucker said, "We feel there is a need to help whole family because after children leave us at 3:50 they are going home to their families."

Stepstone Academy is currently has 125 students enrolled in kindergarten and first grade. It plans to add one grade per year until the school reaches K-8.
