EXCLUSIVE: Undercover prostitution sting in East Cleveland nets three arrests

EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio - East Cleveland police officers arrested three people during an undercover prostitution sting Thursday afternoon.

NewsChannel5 was the only station present with cameras rolling as officers arrested a man, who officers said, attempted to solicit sex from two undercover police officers near E. 125th St. and Superior Ave.

The man was quickly handcuffed and transported to a mobile police unit for processing.

Three female police officers, dressed as prostitutes, were deployed on the streets for approximately three hours during the sting.
 
East Cleveland Police also arrested two women, who they said attempted to engage in prostitution with undercover male officers.

Police Chief Mike Cardilli said prostitution is a major issue in the city.

The police department receives approximately five to six calls each day related to the issue.

"It's a crime residents can see, " said Mayor Gary Norton. He said it is important for police to crack down on prostitution to help create a safer community.
