A four-car accident in Elyria on Monday sent all seven drivers and passengers to various area hospitals, according to police.
Three of the injured had be transported by medical helicopter to MetroHealth Medical Center, authorities reported. One is in critical condition.
Around 2:30 p.m. on Monday, officials said, police in North Ridgeville received calls about a black 1998 Honda Civic driving recklessly, nearly hitting signs, guardrails, trees and garbage cans. Two officers caught up to the vehicle and tried to pull it over using lights and sirens. The car fled the officers for about 45 seconds before causing the four-car accident at the intersection of Cleveland Street and Olive Street in Elyria.
The driver of the fleeing vehicle is 34-year-old Robert Campbell of Elyria, police said. Campbell was talken to the University Hospital Elyria Campus before being flown to Cleveland Metro Health. He is currently in critical condition and charges are being pursued by Elyria Police Department.
Authorities said the driver of a 2012 Kia had three other passengers in her vehicle. The driver and an older male passenger had to be flown to Cleveland Metro Health for further treatment and are currently in stable condition. The other passengers were kept in Elyria's University Hospital for treatment.
The drivers of the other two vehicles involved in the accident were transported to University Hospital Amherst Campus for treatment of minor injuries.
