CLEVELAND - As soon as the sun rose on this brisk Monday after Easter, work crews began setting up "Kishka's Beer Heaven" tent at the center of the Detroit Shoreway Dyngus Day celebrations.
The enclosed tent is located in a parking lot at the corner of West 58th Street and Detroit Avenue and will provide a sheltered area for entertainment and food service throughout the day.
According to Dyngus Day Cleveland organizers, Sterle's Slovenian Country House, a popular east side ethnic restaurant and gathering place since the 1950's, will be serving traditional food favorites inside the tent beginning at lunchtime.
The day-long schedule of performers at the venue can be found at the Cleveland Dyngus Day website.
Dyngus Day has been marked on the Monday after Easter in Poland and other Eastern European countries for centuries. It is a celebration of the end of Lent. A group of Cleveland tavern owners initiated organized Dyngus festivities on Cleveland's near west side three years ago.
Kishka's Beer Heaven is a 2013 addition to the Dyngus events being held in the Gordon Square area of Cleveland. It will be one of the stops made by a shuttle bus that will circulate between ten participating venues in the neighborhood between 2 p.m. and midnight.
The 2013 Miss Dyngus will also make her acceptance speech inside the tent after the annual "March of the Accordions" parade on West 58th Street from Breakwater to Detroit Avenue scheduled for 5 p.m.
