Dog bones -- not human remains -- found in backyard of kidnapping & rape suspect Ariel Castro

CLEVELAND - Bones belonging to a dog – not a human – were recovered from the property of the Cleveland man suspected of kidnapping three women and holding them captive for years, a source said.

The source told NewsChannel5's Paul Kiska that detectives found remains belonging to a dog while digging in Ariel Castro's backyard on Seymour Avenue. No human remains were found during any search this week on the street.

Police searched the property following Castro's arrest Monday night. He has been charged with rape and kidnapping.

Investigators said Castro held Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight were rescued after Berry flagged down neighbors and called 911. All three women had been reported missing.

Castro is being held in the Cuyahoga County Jail on an $8 million bond.
