CLEVELAND - A Cleveland father, who worked as a bailiff at Cleveland Municipal Court, is in critical condition after he was shot while waiting to pick up his children from a Cleveland school.
Police said the victim told officers that he was in his parked vehicle with his wife at East 102nd Street and Hampden Avenue, outside of Citizens Academy, when a man entered the back seat and pointed a gun at them, demanding their cell phones.
The woman gave up her phone but her husband did not, officers said.
The suspect then shot the man, exited the car and fled northbound on East 102nd Street.
The woman drove her husband to the 3rd District, where officers called EMS, who transported the victim to MetroHealth Medical Center. He is scheduled to undergo surgery Wednesday afternoon.
Police describe the male suspect as 6 feet tall, wearing a black leather jacket, blue jeans and a black knit cap with rhinestones on it. He had a grey/black semi-automatic handgun at the incident, according to police.
