Cuyahoga County Sheriff: Super high tech boat coming to Cleveland to patrol & protect Lake Erie

Boston Whaler paid for by Homeland Security

CLEVELAND - A new state of the art boat used to patrol Lake Erie will be unveiled Thursday by the Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Department during a news conference at the Ivancic Marina in Cleveland.

Sheriff Bob Reid said it's the newest high tech weapon in the Northern Border Patrol efforts to patrol and protect Lake Erie.

The boat is a 30-foot Boston Whaler and has the most advanced tools and technology to combat drug smuggling, human trafficking, terrorism and other crimes officials said.

"The Northern Border Patrol provides a law enforcement presence and response along Cuyahoga County's waters and is a joint effort between the Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Office, Cleveland Division of Police, Lakewood Police Department, Transportation Security Administration and the CCSO, CPD and Cleveland Fire Joint Dive Team, under the direction of Sheriff Bob Reid," said Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Department spokesperson

The Lorain County Sheriff's Department has been using a Boston Whaler since early last year thanks to a grant through Homeland Security which paid for the half million dollar boat.
